Continued from Self Defense Education...Self Defense Protection tip no. 5 You must react quickly: Remember that attacks occur and attacks occur very suddenly. You do not have time to think or contemplate what just happened and you're your best ally is to react as quickly as possible. And since the attacks occur so suddenly, you are always left in a very disadvantageous position, if you are not prepared to react. This is especially true if you rely solely on some form of weapon for your defense. Pepper spray, stun guns and firearms are useless if you can't get to them to use them instantly and when you need them the most. So try to anticipate dangerous situations in advance and prepare yourself to take quick action. Self Defense Protection tip no. 6 Almost anything can be a weapon: When confronted by an adverse situation make full use of your environment and use the very many objects lying near you or objects with you. You can use many everyday objects as a weapon. A pen or pencil can be used as a dagger, or a phone or lamp could be used as a club. Anything that is harder, sharper or more resilient than your hands can be used effectively. Any thing that is heavy can be used as a missile and hurdled towards your attacker. Attackers are also human beings like you, and they also fear being attacked the same way you do. Raining heavy things that are sure to injure them will scare the hell out of them. Try throwing away from them to begin with if this dose not deter them then try to throw things directly at their faces and let them know that you are serious and would injure them if taken lightly. Self Defense Protection tip no. 7 When attacked...attack back: It is said the best defense is attack. Attackers hate being attacked as much as you do. They fear being injured as much as you do. You need to make your attacker worry about their own safety, instead of how they're going to hurt you. You may use every part of your body to attack them. Do not forget your nails, fingers and teeth can inflict enough injury to deter a determined attacker. The best places to attack are the most weaker points on the attackers body, target his eyes, groin area, knees or neck / throat. Do not hesitate to attack since it will only give your attacker more time to formulate their own attack and you may not get any other chance. Overwhelm your assailant, trying to momentarily disable them, so you can escape! Self Defense Protection tip no. 8 The element of surprise: Second to awareness, surprise is perhaps the most important element of effective self defense. Using it to your advantage can give you a devastating edge in a confrontation. The number of deceptive counterattacks is limited only by your imagination. For example, you might pretend to be passive, by appearing to submit to your assailants wishes, only to attack them when they least expect it. You might also try to talk to your attacker, then suddenly throw something at their face - and run. In any case, it will be your ability to stay as calm as possible, while you keep thinking, that will make the difference. |
