What Is Mace Pepper Spray?

Pepper Spray is a non-lethal aerosol spray made with the pepper derivative oleoresin capsicum; used to cause temporary blindness and incapacitate an attacker; also used as a bear deterrent. Pepper spray is a derivative of cayenne pepper. The oils are extracted from the pepper by using a high pressure process. This process leaves you with the ingredient found in pepper spray, also known as OleoResin Capsicum.

Mace Pepper Spray is used for self defense against an attacker. Mace Pepper spray is used by aiming the spray at the eyes and facial region of the attacker and then release a 1 to 2 second burst of spray. Mace Pepper spray may take a couple of moments to cause a reaction, so keep your eyes on the attacker.

Contact with mucous membranes such as eyes, nose, throat, and lungs causes immediate dilation of the capillaries. This can result in temporary blindness and instant inflammation of the breathing tube tissues and systematically cuts off all but life support breathing. The OleoResin Capsicum will create an intense burning sensation on the surface of the skin.

Mace Pepper spray has an expiration date because it starts to lose its potency over time. Usually the expiration date is 3 to 4 years. It is highly advisable to replace your pepper spray mace that way you are always assured of the potency of the spray.

Difference Between Mace And Pepper Spray

Many people get mace confused with pepper spray. Mace is an irritant that is similar to tear gas. Pepper spray is an inflammatory agent, and mace is an irritant. Pepper spray will have an effect on those who feel no pain, such as those under the influence of drugs and alcohol and mace will not.

Pepper spray is used as a method of self defense and contains OC(OleoResin Capsicum) which is a natural chemical derived from hot pepper plants. If used correctly, pepper spray will have an immediate effect on an attacker. It must be sprayed directly in the face which cause temporary blindness and instant inflammation of breathing tissues making breathing difficult. Mace does not have any of these effects on anyone.

Mace and pepper spray may contain a UV dye which is not an active chemical in defense sprays but more of an additive. UV dye is highly recommended as it can assist authorities in apprehending the aggressor as it will mark the aggressor with a dye that can not be seen under normal lights. UV dye is completely harmless and will generally wear off in about a week.

Mace and pepper spray, although having different effects, are both forms of self defense. Protecting yourself from an attacker may save your life. Always keep your self defense spray close at hand in case of an attack.
