What is Involved in a State Background Check |
|

There are only a small percentage of employers that are required to pass a state background check in order to obtain employment with that company or agency. There is very little that needs to be done on the part of the individual that the background check is being conducted on. All the employer will need to conduct a comprehensive background check is the name, birth date, and social security number of the individual that they are interested in.
A state background check is comprised of the individual's criminal history in the state that the records for searched for and possibly a finger print test to ensure that you have not been connected to any unsolved crimes in your state of residence. The information needed for the background check can generally be found in a matter of hours and the individual will receive an answer from the employer fairly quickly.
The state background check will not include any information about crimes that the individual was accused of but not convicted of, nor will it include any information about an individual's medical or psychological history, which is protected by the medical privacy act. For the employer to obtain this type of information, a separate waiver must be signed by the potential employee granting the company access to obtain and review those records.
